Running Accomplishments:

The only running accomplishment I have to this point would probably be the fact that I've almost logged a full month of training for distance running.

I guess the 2nd greatest running accomplishment to this point would be that I've learned to enjoy running.  Hell, I love it actually and I get honestly excited about each day I run.  Sure, I've spoken the words before, but never in my life have I enjoyed training this much.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I will be running my first 5K race on June 6th and hope to find a 10K race soon after.  I'm planning to run a half marathon in December and will either run my 2nd half or first full marathon by February 2009.

With all 4 distances logged and times in my first year of running, I think I can be proud of what I accomplished regarless of times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to qualify for and run in the Boston Marathon.

I've been looking for a worthy goal to strive for and while I've been toying with this idea since I started running a month ago, I didn't feel confident enough about myself to actually say so until now.  I've only mentioned it to one person that I know and found this place to express it further.  I don't have a time frame set, but I'm 31 (32 in July) and would like to qualify in the 35 and under category, so that would mean I would give me 3 more chances to do so.

Personal:

I've run one competitive race in my lifetime that I can remember.  I was a junior in high school and my offensive line coach wanted to have 4 fat boys run a 4x100 relay for kicks.

I have never been a fast short distance runner, but I've always been able to keep my slower speed up for longer periods of time.  I've tried running in the past, but over the past month, I finally got "the bug" as one of my friends calls it.  Instead of running to accomplish a goal like weight loss, I now get excited about running and my foot injury about a week ago was annoying as it kept me off the street.  I love running now and look forward to it as if I was attending a great sporting event or something as a spectator.

I might not be losing weight at the pace I would like, but I feel much more in shape now.  I'm waking earlier than I EVER have in the past.  I will lose the weight eventually, but I'm more concerned with putting in the exercise and having the energy to do so.

Back at it... sort of.  Achilles felt fine today, but I wasn't going to push it anymore.  After taking so long off, I'm lazy as ever and barely getting out of bed in the morning.

Looking for 2 miles tomorrow and slowly increasing... 3 miles per day (flat) hopefully soon.
